Cook County Warrant Records Cook County Warrant Records

This page explains what we can and cannot help with, and it lists the offices that handle official Cook County warrant questions. Most requests belong with the Sixth Judicial District court that issued the process or with the sheriff's office that serves it, not with us. The routing below sends each kind of question to the office that actually holds the answer.

This Is Not a Government or Law Enforcement Office. We operate a private reference site. We cannot say whether a warrant exists, recall or clear one, post bond, arrange a surrender, or give legal advice to anyone. For any of those, contact the issuing court or the sheriff's office directly.

Need Official Warrant Information?

Here is where the most common Cook County questions belong:

  • A bench warrant for a missed court date: contact the Cook County District Court that set the case, because that court issued and holds the warrant
  • Whether a warrant exists on a district-court case: start with Cook County Court Administration and the public case record, then use the courthouse records computer if the case does not appear
  • Serving, booking, or custody questions: contact the Cook County Sheriff's Office, which serves process and operates the county jail
  • Resolving or clearing a warrant: talk to a licensed Minnesota attorney and the issuing court about a recall, a surrender, or posting bond
  • Payment on a traffic citation: use the Minnesota Court Payment Center for payment and citation logistics, not for warrant status

For a district-court case, the primary counter is Cook County Court Administration, 411 W 2nd Street, Grand Marais, MN 55604, 218-264-7001, fax 218-387-3007. The office is open during business hours Monday through Friday and keeps a public records computer that visitors reach through the main parking-lot door.

For service, records, and custody questions, the primary counter is the Cook County Sheriff's Office at the Law Enforcement Center, 143 Gunflint Trail, Grand Marais, MN 55604, 218-387-3030, fax 218-387-3032. Records requests may be made in person, by telephone, by mail, or by email, and the county's online data request form is the central intake for county-held records.

The sheriff's civil process division answers 218-387-3093 during its posted Monday through Friday hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., for service of civil documents. Civil process is not a criminal warrant counter, so a warrant status question still belongs with the court. The Minnesota Court Payment Center can be reached at 800-657-3611 or 651-281-3219, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Central.
